Even with challenging obstacles (like Ukrainian crazy neighbor!), we stay focused on simplifying IP taxation issues for businesses. Yesterday, thanks to the resilience of our defenders, we successfully hosted another seminar in Kyiv: “Taxation of Royalty and Software Transactions.”

We were thrilled to see so many participants, both in-person and online! The day was filled with engaging discussions and insightful questions, and we barely had enough time to cover all the planned topics.

Here’s a quick overview of what we explored:

  • With Viktoriia Ostapchuk: Protecting IP during wartime, new registration rules, current trends in Ukrainian IP protection system, contractual relationships involving IP, and recent court practice in enforcing such agreements.
  • With Anna Kravchuk: Taxation of royalties under various tax regimes and contexts, strategies to minimize tax burdens, and nuances of identifying the beneficial owner. Additionally, we discussed contractual models for software transactions and their taxation – a topic that always sparks many questions.
  • With Kateryna Proskura: IP Accounting, including challenges posed by regulatory inspections of IP records.
  • With Olena Kyashko: Methods for calculating royalty rates, as well as tools and sources for these calculations.
  • With Yuliia Ivasiutyn: Effective use of IP in international business structures—global trends, nuances of IP ownership by non-residents in Ukraine, currency restrictions, and tax-efficient jurisdictions for businesses.

This seminar concluded our educational events for the year. We are thankful to all our speakers and participants for their enthusiasm and collaboration!
