Yesterday, on June 2, 2016, the Synergy Agency’s managing partner attended the III International Intellectual Property Forum #IPF2016, organized by Yuridicheskaya Praktika (Legal Practice) publishing house, which was held in the Premier Palace Hotel in Kyiv. This event traditionally brought together many IP specialists of various ranks: consulting company lawyers, corporate IP lawyers, judges, experts, government officials of Ukraine’s intellectual property institutions and international experts.

The event programme was very varied. The discussion opened with a reform of intellectual property state management in Ukraine. Special attention was given to anti-piracy and anti-counterfeit campaigns.

The third session of the forum was divided into parallel sections, in which copyright, patent law and trademark issues were discussed. The final session was dedicated to judicial practice in intellectual property protection. Judges of the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine and the High Specialized Court of Ukraine participated in the discussion.

It is symbolic that on this very day the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine ‘On Judicial System and Status of Judges’, which was submitted on May 30, 2016. In the context of the IP field, this law is notable for creating the Supreme Court for Intellectual Property. Discussing this law and its changes added spice to the event. It was interesting to hear an opinion of IP specialists and judges on this issue. Participants unanimously considered this news as positive – establishing a specialized court should be a guarantee of professional and impartial judgments in the challenging field of intellectual property.

The forum holding by Yuridicheskaya Praktika (Legal Practice) was excellent as always. This event was conducted in an active and interesting manner and became a good opportunity to meet and communicate with colleagues.
